Happy Birthday , KP

I made this for a friend of mine whose birthday is today. It's my first card since I started scrapping and I tried many configurations before finally settling on this - keeping it sweet and simple like the birthday girl.

I used diamante slide letters for her initials and cut away the slide back to make it flat alphas. She just texted me to say she's received it and likes it, so I'm happier than happy. I hope it made her day and made her smile.

School's out, where to go?

At Gracefields at the end of each school year, the parents would be asked to tick which photo we wanted to order. I always ordered just the one for the class, thinking that I'd order the full package once she reaches K2 (her final year). Who would have known that the Teck Whye branch could only afford her two years, in Nursery 1 and Nursery 2, before closing down for good due to land lease issues. As it is, her current kindy is next to where Gracefields was located and she frequently asked about her teachers and classmates as she passes by everyday. The Gracefields compound is now a niche korean kindy.

As time pass by, I thought I should get her school photos and classmates names properly documented before we all forgot. So pulling together all the elements, I made a layout with the photos serving as focus and also as pockets, to store the memories.

I did some masking with Tim Holtz mask and recipe for home made mist. Can you see the slide in cards behind the photos? Those are from the leftover of the back of the shaped paper, and I had them punched, edged with Distress ink, eyelet reinforced and tied with ribbon.

Butterflies. One prima butterfly altered by me because I need some beautiful green.  I think it's my secret favourite color, after which is red yellow blue green purple pink you get the idea.

Prima pebble! I have another one right at the top of the page. Charissa gave them to me for christmas and I thought they were some magic pebbles until I realised they were just paper based.

Close up of the tag I stamped with the Unity stamp $5 kit and machine sewn. I like the bit where one corner got chomped off by real on the sewing machine. Made it look more authentic!

Materials : DCVW Papers - speciality diecut Spring, Gradeschool stack, cardstock. MLS + K&Co scraps on butterflies. Ranger Stickles. Prima pebbles. Scrapbook Adhesives foam tape. Making Memories silver swirl. Unity Stamp. Martha Steward Classic Butterfly Punch. Distress ink.

Mini Memory Box

Here's a little something I did for a project a couple of weeks back. It's a little altered 3" diskette box left behind by my ex-colleague, who knew I wanted to collect junk for all kinds of purpose - like alteration. So I liked this very much and thought it would sit very well on my cramped work desk and could also contain all the tiny little moments that I laughed about. I made it so I can pull out one like antidote anytime I need to a quick stress relief!

This is how the box with one little sample layout looks like.  I put in one where BbC looked surprised when Ms E "kissed" her with the plastic goose. Look at that expression!

Pull down to open up, and flip through the layouts at random!

And a front view of it. I didn't want to alter and cover it like what most scrappers would do, as the best things are not covered but for peeking. It was also to create a peekaboo effect. I fussy cut the MLS papers to trim out two girls that Ms E said best represented the two of them, and trimmed a little fence with my punch to give the whole thing a little depth and dimension (and meadow and flowers and such) . As usual, I touched up everything with a hint of glitter from stickles.

This I think is one of my best projects so far. Enjoy!

My pretty pink princesses

I wanted to scraplog this photo before it got lost in the sea of photos on my comp, so when I saw the MLS MARCH SKETCH CHALLENGE I told myself to give it a go!

My comp chose this moment to "pass on" so I can't download the accurate ones taken on my ixus. Here's the one taken on iPhone. The background is a yellow green and the centre title is the MLS green text, but it doesn't quite show.

Here it is. A photo of the love between these two always makes fo great photos. Big Sis E likes to help little Sis C, and so here E is holding C's hand as C takes her wobbly steps in delight.

Ugh - iPhone doesn't allow me to post photo!
(update - posting from comp as it has revived!)

Family Album

A colleague of mine invited us to his house for a gathering some time in December, 2010. His son was born a couple of months after my BbC, so I did not get to attend his son's full month as I was in confinement. So I wanted to make something special that they could use.

It was my first attempt (and a very ambitious one) at using chipboard 12 x 12 shaped. It took me many nights of gluing and filing before I could start decorating. It'd be a while before I try something this ambitious anytime soon. I think.

The cover made to signify exploration - a pair of tickets, some butterflies and three pairs of hearts and keys in a shaker box.

I actually themed the pages two by two. So this one featured everything that was fun holidaysy feel. The circle could open up with four in a fan style, and they looked like biscuits :)

This one was about little peekaboo secrets. So this particular page had a "card" style mini folder where when it opened, had a journalling page and a mat for photographs. It's closed like those yellow manila envelopes favoured by secret agents. hehe. And here's one last photo just to show one of those tags I included in the pages. I like this very much - inspired by Tim Holtz's 12 days of Christmas tags.
