House Warm

Whistle Bird Key Chain roosting to warm the little hook up house.

Yesterday I went to attend a housewarming of an ex-colleague, Bee Yee (or Bee which was her nick), who had been my mentor when I first joined my current organisation.  Of course, my entire department had been invited as well.  I didn't want to give her a standard goodwill red packet although that money would have been useful (since when money wasnt'?).

Anyway, so I connived with my nice boss Pei Ling and my lovely neighbor Nalini  to get Bee a gift.  Something that I think she would enjoy more than a little red packet, or a fake crystal fruit punch bowl with a ladle and 9 matching cups (Yes, that was the de facto house warming gift in the 80s~!).  Bee in my memory loved to snack.  And more than snacking, she loved Jelly Belly jelly beans.

I made a super quick trip on Friday evening to the nearest Cocoa Trees and snapped up a 50 flavour variety box, a mini dispenser and 3 pocket dispenser worth of beans.  Three pocket dispenser because I figured one for her pocket, one in her bag and one in the office drawer in case she left home without it hahaha...

Typewritten : For all the colorful moments in your life (just like jellybean!)
I made a bee clear embossed tag, stained it with rainbow colors and typed the message on my Hanima Regal typewriter. Happy colors yes?

.Since it was shared by 3 persons, I made 3 mini card tags to paste each of the 3 pocket dispenser. Within each tag was a best wish from each of us.

 The message is hidden within.

As for that bird house on top? That was the first thing I gave her when I stepped in.  I altered it with Tim Holtz tissue tape, and covered it with a thin layer of protective matt medium.  It's cuteness isn't it? :)

Fly

Such a drowsy browsy Sunday!  Probably partially due to the fact that I was mulling over a layout till quite late last night.

Today's sun is gloriously hot, bright and one of those "I wish I was dipping in the sea" type of day, or better yet with a large pina colada and by the pool side wearing a large floopy hat.
I was working on a challenge from Moments Recorded, set by June on the simple theme of Wings. Me being me, I left it to the really last weekend to get it up as the deadline is 10th March.  I pulled out my favourite photo and here is my bright sunny happy take.  Childhood is so full of promises and I couldn't help but tie it together with God's promises in rainbows.

Inspired by all those drippy gooey crayon art on Pinterest, I thought I'd do my own non melt art version and here's my take on it.

My cam  is still down so this was taken by my iphone 4 (no S).  I brought my Canon to repair and was very sad when Canon told me it'd cost $400 odd to have it repaired and that it was kind of a goner...  looks like I need to buy a new cam.

Any suggestions?

Candy Cane

I scrap after the event passes, so here's one where BbC had her very first candy cane.  Here in sunny Singapore we will never have snow.  Christmas is always terribly hot, warm and occasionally periods of long continuous rainy showers.  However, that doesn't change the fact that we celebrate christmas anyway!  For my family, Christmas is about the birthday of Jesus except that we get the presents all the time.

I tend to procrastinate over Christmas photos because they don't turn out as cute/ fluffy/ christmassy as those I see from other countries, but this year I decided to go ahead and use up my stash - since friends were still buying Christmas chipboards for me.

I wanted to create my own snow so I went ahead to mix acrylic paint, Helmar acid free white glue and my glitter dust.  Can you see the rough glinty effect of the dried white glitter?  I like the texturing a lot!  I guess if you mix brown, it can pass off as sand for another layout.

Of course, I couldn't resist those cute little mitts too though no one wears them.  Tied them up with a little bit of twine and they look so festive and ready to go!

I did something a little different this time.  I used the now-so-popular MT tapes from Japan to do a little border around the photo, accent the words and tab for the date.

No No No!

These photos were taken during the mid autumn fest when BbC could toddle but cousin Joshua hadn't learn how to walk steadily yet.  He liked to give BbC random hugs and being the ever obedient boy, listened to his mama when she said, go give big sis a kiss.

Needless to say, small toddlers immensely dislike being squashed like a tomato so she would always yell loudly,  "No!No!No!!!!"

My talented sis in law caught these on cam and I had to make it into a layout!  Did not get inspired until I saw these MME papers I had stashed somewhere and immediately set to work.  The layout is really simple but I think it speaks for itself.   I love how that coordinating trim edge from MmE just fits nicely flipped.

Sweet Christmas

Blessed Christmas to one an all.   I attended an awesome service today so well put together by all the people who had one same goal, to worship Jesus.  Today is Jesus' birthday!  I like to think that all the present exchanges are like little goodie bags in celebration of His birth, the day that we receive the greatest gift of all - eternal life.

Here's a quick gift I had put together after being inspired by an MLS card made by Mich.  This is for the office exchange for a colleague of mine who occasionally snacks.  I wanted her to have a sweet year ahead and thought I'd put together something in an upcycled Snapple bottle which had a beautiful S moulded into the glass. S is for sweets, no?

I finished it off with a little cardboard tag, my sentiments in white souffle pen and tied together with a cute snowman ribbon from Michael's.  As for those snowflakes, they were vellum paper punched from the Martha Stewart artic snowflake punch.

I hope she liked it as much as I did.

Dream box 3

This dream box was made for Joyce, BY's colleague who has two lovely daughters.  As I couldn't find any photos in her facebook, I decided I would make it for her to add on the photos on her own.  The main portion came with a little flip open section with insert cards for her to put photos and journal.

Cute and whimsy style, just like Joyce.
To represent her two cute girls.

We ♥ Singapore!

National Day is coming on 9 August and it reminded me that I hadn't scrap Ms E's photograph from last year.  So I quickly pulled out a piece of cardstock and sprays, wanting to have some color to remind me of the fireworks that occur every year at the parade.  I wanted to add in ribbon for texture and movement and all the shiny stars that appear in our flag and our songs.

"here are 5 stars arising, out of the stormy sea..."

I adore the October Afternoon paper and thought all that red apple goes very well with my red theme. And all those big small MLS letters just made the title perfect! Majulah (onwards) Singapura (Singapore)!

Fly a Kite

Once a while, in busy clustered Singapore, what we need most is space.  And because open space is so rare, everyone wants to go there too.

Here's one layout I did quickly to put together one trip by the sisters for my own reference. We went to Marina Barrage to fly a kite together. BbC's very first time too!

Wish that was me...

One day some time ago, we went to Vivo City and Ms E chanced upon this ride.  It cost us $8 for 5 mins, and the operator would not allow more than 1 kid up on the ride.  At that time, BbC was not too stable so we thought we would just leave her outside with me to wait.  Who knows, she stood at the side looking on longingly and the dad and sis on the rides and even patted one of the deflated giraffe that was wheeled in in delight!  Felt so bad that she didn't get to ride, but the queue was too long to go again.

Next time, we will ask her godma Diana to bring her :)
